Audio AI enables early detection of diseases and better personalised treatment.

Early detection is key with many critical diseases and the voice can serve as an important biomarker. This is where our technology comes into play. audEERING can detect changes in speech and emotional state of a person in a very early stage and with very high accuracy.

Use Case: Detecting Parkinson’s with emteq

Challenge

Emteq is a provider of emotion sensing AI technology and develops hardware for this purpose. Among others they build smart glasses to monitor speech and other biometrics over time. Emteq partnered with audEERING to include our audio intelligence technology in these glasses.

Use Case: Detecting Parkinson’s with emteq

Challenge

Emteq is a provider of emotion sensing AI technology and develops hardware for this purpose. Among others, they build smart glasses to monitor speech and other biometrics over time. Emteq partnered with audEERING to include their audio intelligence technology in these glasses.

Solution

audEERING analyzed speech recorded from 30 healthy people and 20 people clinically diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. A data collection protocol was used to record the speech using a microphone embedded within the frame of a prototype pair of smart glasses. The detection of the speech biomarkers works automatically from the audio signal. Furthermore, standard microphones were used – no lab environment needed. The participants of the project were asked to perform three different tasks.

Participants performed the following tasks

Recording a free speech excerpt different for each person.

Reading a specified passage, identical for all participants.

Speaking a series of sounds, split into two categories: a sustained vowel sound like “aaah” and a sequence of plosive sounds like “pa-ta-ka”.

92% ACCURACY

Using voice as a biomarker for Parkinson’s disease

Results

audEERING and emteq were able to identify a patient with Parkinson’s with 92 percent accuracy. The smart glasses by emteq which feature the audEERING technology will be subject to clinical trial during 2019 and available in 2020.

Real time emotion detection

Our technology can detect how somebody says something, not only what. This helps in early diagnostics of diseases like depression, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer and burn-out. Do you want to see how our emotion detection works in real time? Then watch the video below with our demo robot “audEER” and our CEO and Co-Founder, Dagmar Schuller.
